CLAY GARLAND MEMORIAL
TECHNICAL THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP
The Clay Garland Memorial Technical Theatre Scholarship is a full, annual award created to honor Clay Garland’s legacy. It supports high school students (grades 9–12) who demonstrate strong character, integrity, teamwork, and a willingness to step up—even when they don’t have all the answers.
This scholarship is designed to remove financial barriers and encourage students to explore technical theatre, regardless of prior experience. It recognizes those who are curious, eager to learn, and willing to try new things, solve problems, and grow through hands-on experience.
Award Details:
The scholarship covers full tuition or program costs for technical theatre education or participation for one academic year and is awarded annually.
Eligibility & Ideal Candidate:
Applicants must be high school students who demonstrate integrity, responsibility, and collaboration. Ideal candidates treat others with respect, work well as part of a team, and show initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. They are not afraid to ask questions, try new approaches, and step forward when something needs to be done—even if they have never done it before. Prior technical theatre experience is not required.
Nomination & Selection Process:
This scholarship is awarded through nomination rather than application, reflecting the spirit of Clay Garland himself—someone who would never have put himself forward, but whose character and actions spoke clearly to those around him.
Teachers, mentors, and school leaders are invited to recognize students who quietly lead, support others, and step up when it matters most. Nominations should highlight a student’s integrity, collaborative spirit, and willingness to learn, along with an example of how they have taken initiative or embraced a challenge without hesitation.
This award serves as a lasting tribute to Clay Garland by supporting students who lead with integrity, collaborate with others, and embrace the challenge of figuring things out.
